Day Service
We provide adult day services to individuals 21
and older with developmental disabilities. Our
program is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,
Monday through Friday.
We strive to stimulate our clients mentally
and physically. Our goal is to try and
maintain what physical capability they have. We
use a variety of techniques, therapies and
activities.

Mobility
We operate on a 1-2 client to 1 staff ratio.
Many of our individuals are in wheelchairs.
When we go out on field trips, we have a 1:1
ratio.
Gross Motor Activities
We do gross motor activities, such as playing
with the parachute, adaptive bowling, walking
and exercise programs for those who can
actively participate.
Range of Motion
Gentle range of motion can be done
with our clients as well as stretching. Fine
motor skill activities such as arts and crafts
and tactile activities encourage coordination.

Music Therapy
Music therapy is one of our most important
therapies. A certified music therapist , Maggie
Rodgers, comes to play music and interact with
our clients. Adapted musical instruments are
used so everyone can participate. A belly
dancer, Zaina Ali, also comes to work with
middle-eastern music, drums, and movement.
Participants also get to be draped in colorful
costumes and play instruments.
Another one of our music activities
involves, David Smart, who plays classical
guitar for our entertainment every other week.

Pet Therapy
Pet therapy is a favorite. We visit Petland
frequently and volunteers bring animals for our
clients to interact with.
Massage Therapy
A massage therapist visits every Thursday and
as an optional activity participants can have a
massage. The charge for this is $1.00 per
minute and they can have up to a 20 minute
massage.
Field Trips
We frequently take our clients on trips to fun
and interesting places. We go to various
museums, the Deanna Rose farmstead, Union
station, the Country Club plaza, and stores for
shopping. This helps get us out and about. Our
goal is for every person to go on a minimum of
two trips per week.
Eating Out
Eating out is a weekly activity and we explore
different restaurants in the Kansas City Metro
area.
Transportation
We are fortunate to have a van that
can carry up to 5 wheelchairs at one time, plus
staff.

Nutrition
Nutrition is important and we assist
everyone with eating lunch. Participants
bring their lunch and we have a microwave to
heat food. Staff assists everyone with eating,
including those that have to be tube fed.
Snacks and drinks are offered throughout the
day.
